Vandeka
Luiz do Rosário Vieira Lobo, also known as Vandeka, is the chef at the Guesthouse´s restaurant. As he remembers, his nickname is written with a "v" and a "k", instead of the assortment of ways others writes it; Wandeca, Vandeca and Wandeka.
Owning a unique talent for the art of cuisine, he was born in a district of Diamantina called "São João da Chapada". A son of a miner, he followed in his father's steps until he discovered his ability to cook. He moved to Diamantina and since then he has worked for the Pousada do Garimpo.
Charismatic and conversational, he is now a local celebrity in Diamantina, and has already cooked for the former presidents Tancredo Neves and Fernando Henrique Cardoso. His specialty is Brazilian and Minas Gerais cuisine, and he is more than pleased to welcome every guest at the hotel.

Pousada do Garimpo uses propane showers and all hallways have light timers and light-saving sensors. Rooms in the new building have a magnetic key that turn off all electronic devices when the guest leaves the area.
