King’s Revelry

Crossing streets and alleys, the performers take you back to the old days, when the festivity was still celebrated.

The King’s Revelry is formed by groups of men spread across Diamantina, representing the peregrination of the three Magi that lead the message of the birth of Christ. They pass by the houses of the city and the agricultural zone dancing and singing followed by instruments as guitar, drums, box etc. 

The basic formation comprises the Master, the second lieutenant (bringing the flag), three Magi, the merrymakers and the clowns are present. The popular faith believes that they are carrying blessings from the skies and, therefore, they are received with prayer and satiated food.

The party climax happens on January 6th at the “Catedral Metropolitana de Santo Antônio”. The church surrounds are the stage of the Revelry Meeting, an event that congregates the participant groups. When they get together, they sing challenges and make choreographies.
