Concerts have been performed since the 17th century, with Lobo de Mesquita, and with countless bands during the 19th and 20th centuries.

The musicians of bands and even members of Sapo Seco (the city's traditional Carnival band, founded in 1869) will play from the balconies of houses as the public watches from below.

This is a tradition lost and then resumed in 1977. It became what it is today with the participation of two orchestras, the mayor of Diamantina Banda and the Military Police, which rotate and sometimes play together.

The repertoire is eclectic from the Jovem Guarda, to the Bossa Nova, to classical. The city's inhabitants crowd around to see the spectacle.
