The history of the hotel is one of its greatest attractions. Hotel Tijuco was designed by Oscar Niemeyer as a gift to Juscelino Kubitschek, known as JK, the Brazilian President at that time. Hotel Tijuco was constructed to satisfy State demand and was used as accommodation to Juscelino and his retainers until 1990, when it was sold by auction to four partners from Diamantina City who still own it today.

The organisation and tidiness of the hotel deserve attention, as well as the wide spaces and comfort provided. The receptionists are well informed about the city and regional attractions and are able to provide guests with advice and information.

The special homemade cookies for breakfast, made by a cook who has been working in the hotel since it became private, are not to be missed. Astoundingly, he may even be willing to share the secrets of his recipes.

Policies and Other Information

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellations made two days or more before arrival date will receive a 100 % refund;  In case of a no show, one night will be charged plus taxes. For special events and dates, booking is confirmed by a deposit of 50% of the total booking value - subject to season and accommodation occupancy.

Late check-out policy:

Late check-out from 2 pm to 6 pm will cost 50 % of the daily rate, plus taxes. Late check-out after 6 pm will be charged 100 % of the daily rate plus taxes.


Children policy:

Children under six years of age sharing bedding with the parents stay free of charge. Children seven years of age and older are charged the adult rate.
